INSPIRATION (ILHAM)

The inspiration which is perfect in nature is attained after the mirror of soul is cleansed by the invocation and contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and contemplation of Ism-e-Mohammad. The inward that is not enlivened by contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat and Ism-e-Mohammad remains impure due to sensual desires and strayed from the righteous path. The inspiration for such souls comes from false and misleading sources.

The souls of Prophets and Saints also guide the seekers of Allah by inspiration at the beginning of their spiritual journey through the Uwaisi way. History has many such examples. The most prominent example is of Allama Iqbal who was spiritually guided by the soul of Rumi.

The knowledge imparted through inspiration is called ilm-e-ladunni (علمِ لدنیّ) by the Sufis. It is gained only by Allah's beneficence without any medium. Many notable Saints have said that they have been 'inspired with knowledge' directly from Allah.

The inward which has been illuminated by the contemplation of Ism-e-Allah Zaat receives inspiration specifically from Allah.

Spiritual powers of dawat, waham or inspiration are not the ultimate destination in Sufism. Rather, sometimes the spiritual guide may also grant them to test the seeker. Many, upon receiving these Divine blessings, got carried away and stumbled due to mistakenly considering it their mystical ascent and, as a result, turning away from their spiritual guide.
