MAWLID AL-NABI

Two groups have emerged on the issue of celebrating Mawlid. The first group entirely denies the celebration of Mawlid, branding it as polytheism and heresy. The second group on the other hand, exceeds the boundaries of sharia and engages in frivolous actions during the celebrations. In my perspective, the conduct of both groups is wrong and stems from opposition and biasness against each other.

This must be kept in mind that the Mawlid ceremony means to hold a congregation for the remembrance of the Holy Prophet, remaining within the limits of sharia, in which the luminous aspects of his sacred personality are discussed. His perfection, excellence, marvels and ranks, the Mohammadan Reality and the greatest blessing of Allah in his form are described. To take out procession in this happiness, to enlighten people about sharia, reciting encomiums and serving meals according to the financial capacity are also included in it.

To celebrate the Mawlid of Allah's beloved Prophet Mohammad (sall'Allahu alayhi wa'alihi wasallam) is not only the most elevated act but also mandatory upon us as we are his umma. All the Prophets prayed to be part of his umma and were willing to abandon their prophethood for the sake of this privilege. How agonizing it is that we neglect Prophet Mohammad's day of birth but celebrate our own birthdays and those of our family members and friends, and even our anniversaries.

Religious and political parties hold their annual gatherings and admire their leaders. They celebrate the founding day, golden and platinum jubilees of their parties and hoist flags. They also show power by holding processions. Moreover, we celebrate our country's independence day, and rulers celebrate the anniversaries of their government but objection is only on the celebration of Mawlid. Curse on the followers of this notion!

Shun stubbornness, ego and prejudice! Let us celebrate the Mawlid of our beloved Prophet befitting his splendour. Offer prostration of gratitude that Allah has chosen us as his nation. We should send him greetings and salutations, recite encomiums and narrate his grandeur and Mohammadan Reality so that we may become eligible for his intercession.
